After 8 long years of American persecution of the Islamic world the reign of George Bush is finally over. And now our new President who lived part of his life in a majority Muslim country is finally trying to mend some of the fences that Bush and his cronies ran over with a semi. However, it'll take more than just rhetoric to get us to any sort of good relations with the Muslim world.
Removing American military forces from Iraq is a great starting point. And if we can be successful in Afghanistan that would be even better. But now that we have an opportunity to fix our relations with billions of people would should remember the mistakes we have made in the past. Using military might instead of diplomacy was part of what got us into this mess in the first place. Lets not do it again. While I support a surge in forces in Afghanistan we have to remember that the Muslim world has damn good reason to be suspicious of American military forces in their nations. We have to build bridges that aren't made through the blood of their religious brothers and sisters. But of a unified cause of creating a lasting and fair prosperous peace.

Weekly Rant 03/03/09
I'm no Republican. And while I love watching the already weakened Republican party tear itself in half I have to wonder. Why on Earth does the Chairman of the party have to apologize to Rush Limbaugh for refuting, gently, his idiotic and hate mongering comments about the Obama administration? Michael Steele was a pretty weak choice for Chairman of the RNC, but I really don't know who else they would've gotten (but if you ask Rush he'd suggest himself probably). But this level of weakness is beyond me. First Phil Gingrey called his refutiation of Limbaughs' stupidity a "foot in mouth incident". And now the Chairman of the RNC can't stand up to this moronic, hateful bully? The head of the party Limbuagh is supposedly a member of? I know Steele doesn't have the fan base of Limbaugh. And I know he doesn't have type of podium that Limbaugh does. But he's the head of the party. And it's his responsibility to ensure that it moves forward in the right direction. And what Limbaugh is doing is only pandering to the extreme far right of the country. And the Republicans aren't going to be winning anything with just that voting block. So Michael Steele, please, for the sake of your own party and for the sake of the country, grow a pair and put this nutter back in his place.

Weekly Political Rant 02/26/09
The stock market is in the shitter. It's going to stay that way for a good while longer. We all wish that it and the economy in general were doing better. But we elected Barack Obama and the Democrats because the majority of people in the US think that they have the answers to this problem. So, please people, give them a chance! They have barely been in office a month. Especially if you voted for them or supported them. Obama and his cabinet (well, the ones without tax evasion problems at least) are working on it to the best of their ability. He did what he vowed to do; he got the Stimulus package passed by Presidents day. That's a victory of substance over style and bluster. Something that should be a breathe of fresh air considering the political horrors of the past 8 years. And a new report currently circulating around the major news organizations says that all US combat troops will be out of Iraq by 2010. Just the fact that Obama and his administration is following through on what they said they would do during the election should give us as a nation a morale boost. Instead of listening to the fear mongering, and now on their heels right wing nut jobs like Rush Limbaugh we should look at the facts as they are. Obama has followed through on his promises as much as he can within the first month of him taking office. So let's give the man we elected with such a wide majority the chance he deserves.
